Active Link Exchange Help: Configuration and Settings.
●
General Options:
General options are used as the default settings for all projects.
You can access and change these default settings by clicking on
"Settings/General Options" from the program's main menu.

From the 5 general settings options select "General".

- Ask before removing a web site from the list: when this box
is checked the program will ask for confirmation when you try to delete links from the link exchange list
before actually removing them.
- Maximum number of parallel HTTP connections: this is the
number of simultaneous http connections used by the program when
searching for links or working online. The default 5 will work fine
for most projects. Increasing this number will increment the speed
of the Partner Research Wizard.
- Maximum number of parallel FTP connections: this is the
number of simultaneous ftp connections used by the program when
using the FTP module for uploading your links exchange web pages to
your server. The default 1 is fine for most projects.
- Default E-Mail: when researching partner web sites Active
Link Exchange wizard will try to extract the email found on those
web sites. If no email is found for a given web site a default email
such us office@website.com
will be used instead (where website.com is the domain of the site
and office@ is set by you here). You can select from a variety of
options such as webmaster@ or any other from the drop down menu.
- Default message pattern: this is the default email template
to be used when sending an initial collaboration offer email to
partner web sites. You can change the email template to be
used for any communication when you actually send the email.
- Language: sets the language interface to use on the
program. More languages will be available soon.
When you have set your preferred default settings click on the "OK"
button to save them.
●
Proxy Options:
If you connect to the Internet using a proxy you should set up your
proxy configuration by clicking on "Proxy options". You should set
up the proxy fields exactly as they are configured in your browser
internet connections options. For example, if you use Internet
Explorer as your default browser, from its menu click on
"Tools/Internet Options", then click on the "Connections" tab and on
the "LAN Settings" button. If you are using a proxy its address and
port will be detailed there. You should enter exactly the same
configuration for Active Link Exchange.

- Use proxy: check the box only if you are using a proxy
server to connect to the Internet. The default setting is unchecked
and does not use a proxy.
- Server: if you are using a proxy enter the IP address or
hostname of the proxy server. An example would be 200.130.130.70 or
myproxyserver.com.
- Port: enter the port address used by the proxy server for
http connections. The default address 3128 is the most frequently
used port for proxy servers.
- Server requires authentication: check this box if your
proxy requires an username and password to be able to connect.
- Username and Password: enter your proxy server
username and password on these fields.
●
Search
Parameters:
These settings are for configuring how the Find New Partners Wizard
and other search tools behave by default.

- Maximum number of links to find for each SE: the default
number of links to search for on each selected search engine when
using the Find New Partners Wizard. The default, 20, will look for
the top 20 positions on each search engine when searching for
keywords. This setting can be changed from the Wizard itself when
performing each search.
- Sites with and without prefixes: check this box if you want
sites within the same domain name to be considered as one site even
when they have different prefixes. As an example when the box is
checked the web page www.mysite.com/index.htm
will be considered the same as mysite.com/index.htm and therefore
only one of them will be returned by the Find New Partners Wizard.
By default this box is unchecked.
- Follow links on the partner page if the link back is not found:
when using the program "Check link back" button feature and this box
is checked, if the program does not find a link back to your site in
the specified link exchange partner web page, it will scan the
partner site trying to find a link back to your site. By default
this box is unchecked.
- Follow links on your page if your partner link is not found:
similarly when using the "Check partner links on your page" feature
from the program main menu ("Project/Check partner links on your
page") and this box is checked, if no link is found in your link
exchange web page to a given partner site, the program will scan
your site trying to find a link to the partner web site. By default
this box is unchecked.
●
Web browser:
By default Active Link Exchange can display the partner sites found
with the research wizard inside its own preview browser window when
you click on the "Preview" tab from the main program screen. The web
browser settings allow you to use your favorite browser to display
web pages and partner sites. You will then just select any site from the
links list and click on "View/View link in browser" from the program
main menu.

- Web browser location: enter the web browser to use when
viewing partner web sites. On the sample above Internet Explorer has
been selected as the default browser. If no browser is selected the
"View link in browser" item will not be available on the program's
View menu.
●
External FTP client:
When uploading your link exchange page to your server you can use
Active Link Exchange FTP module or alternatively use your favorite
FTP program. When you set your current FTP program as the external
FTP client you will be able to launch it from within Active Link
Exchange web page code generator window by clicking on the "Run FTP"
button.

- FTP client location: enter the location of the FTP program to use when
uploading your link exchange pages to your server. As an example WSFTP has been configured above. After your link exchange web page
has been built using the web page generator wizard you may click on
the "Run FTP" button to launch your favorite FTP program and upload
your links pages to your site. If no external FTP program is selected
the "Run FTP" button will be disabled.
- Maximum number of links on a single generated page: you can
set a maximum number of links per page to be created when using the
program's link exchange web page generator wizard. When the number
of links is exceeded the program will generate additional link
pages.
●
