Active Link Exchange Help: Project Options.
●
Project Options:
The
first step of your link exchange campaign is to create a new
project.
When
you run Active Link Exchange it will ask you to create a new project
or load an existing one.

You
will normally create a project for each web site you own or service.
When creating
a new project the project wizard will guide you to enter the new
project data . You can also modify the data for an existing project
by clicking on "Project/Project Options" from the program's main menu.

You can
then enter the data for your new project or modify the data of an
existing project on the Project Options Screen.

- Project name: enter a name that describes your link
exchange project.
- Web site home url:
the
home Web Site for this project
such as http://www.mywebsite.com.
- Your Name:
the
Name that will be used in your emails to other webmasters. The name
you enter here will be used as your signature when you send emails
using Active Link Exchange mailing feature.
- Company Name:
your
company name (optional).
If you fill out this field it will also be used
in your
emails to other webmasters as your signature just below your name.
- Email Address: this is the
the
email address to be used in your emails to other webmasters. It will
be used as the sender in the From field when sending emails using
Active Link Exchange mailing feature.
- Url of links page:
the Url
where you will upload the page containing links to your partner
network sites such as http://www.mywebsite.com/links.htm. Active Link Exchange will
build and manage this page for you automatically using the html code
generation wizard.
When you have entered your project data click on the "OK" button to
save it.
●
Project Categories:
If your link exchange project involves several areas of interest you
can create categories so that you can later on assign partner links
to different categories. If on the other hand your link exchange is
focused on a narrow area (such as astronomy books) you may decide
not to use categories and leave the category list empty so that all
your partner links will belong to the same general group. When
researching for partners using the Find New Partners Wizard you are
able to assign sites to any category of your choice. Categories can
also be used when creating your links web page using the html code
generator wizard to list links under different category branches.
Categories can also be included in your emails to link exchange
partners as the theme of your partner's site. Active Link Exchange
comes with some default built-in categories and you can add new
categories or modify the list as you like for each link exchange
project. To edit the project categories open the project and then
click on "Project/Edit Categories".

You can add your own set of categories from the categories window.

- Add Button: click on the Add button to add your own
categories to the link exchange project.
- Edit button: select any existing category and click on
"Edit" to modify it.
- Delete button: select any existing category and click on
"Delete" to remove it from the list.
When you are done adding categories click on the "Close" button.
Your categories will be added to the category list
for this project and will be accessible for use from different areas
of the program including the main links list screen.

Edit Status List:
Active Link Exchange assigns a status to each listing on your link
list. As your link exchange network grows and depending on the
actions you take, the program assigns a status to each partner link
on your list. You can also modify the status of any listing as you
wish. Examples of default status values assigned by Active Link
Exchange are: "Undecided", "Link request mail has not been sent",
"Waiting for answer to link request mail", ... and so on. You can
see the list of all default values by selecting any link from the
main list and then clicking on the "Status" column on the program main
window. Although the default values should be more than enough for
most of your projects, if you want to add additional status values
for a particular project, you can do so by selecting "Project/Edit
Status List" from the program main menu.

You can add your own set of status values (any status of particular
interest to your link exchange project) from the status list window.

- Add Button: click on the Add button to add your own status
values to the link exchange project. If for example you are
interested to mark sites that link to you and are top referrers to
your site you could add "This site links to us and is a Top
Referrer" as a status value. You could then mark a site a Top
Referrer by clicking on it from the main window links list and
selecting the new status value from the Status column drop down box.
- Edit button: select any existing status value and click on
"Edit" to modify it.
- Delete button: select any existing status value and click on
"Delete" to remove it from the list.
When you are done adding status values click on the "Close" button.
Your status list will be added to Active Link Exchange default
status list for this project and will be accessible for use from different areas
of the program including the main links list screen.
