Active Link Exchange Help: Importing and Exporting
Links.
A great advantage of Active Link Exchange is its ability to import
or export link exchange data to and from other programs and
databases. The different file formats supported let you input
or output data to any programs and applications that have a standard
importing or exporting feature. Similarly Active Link Exchange data
can be imported directly by industry standard databases such as
Access and SQL and viceversa. Importing and exporting data is a
useful feature to easily input all the data collected by Active Link
Exchange in other applications or to get data from other applications into Active Link
Exchange.
●
Exporting link exchange data:
The objective of exporting is to save link exchange data into a standard file
format that you can later on import into a database or third party application.
First open your link exchange project and then select
"Project/Export Links" from the program's main menu.

From the Import/Export wizard screen select the file format and the
data fields to be exported.

- Status filter drop down box: select links to export. By
default "All links" will be exported. You may select from any of the
available subsets of links instead.
- File Type: select one of the supported file formats. The
following standard formats are available: .csv Excel format file,
tab delimited text file, .txt text file, .fpr or html file. The
default .csv format can be directly opened or imported by most
standard third party applications and databases such as Excel, Access, MS-SQL, Mysql and others.
- Fields: select the data fields to be exported. Most data
fields from the link list are available. You will normally select
only those fields that you plan to import into another application
or database. If for example you plan to import email addresses into
your own mail application you will just select the email address
field.
Hit the "OK" button when done. Then save the data as a
file in your local disk.

To review the contents of the file just double click on it (from
Windows Explorer), open it with Excel or with a text editor such as
Windows Notepad. The file can be freely imported into another
application as you wish.

Importing link exchange data:
The objective of importing is to input new links data into your link exchange
project from a standard file format that you have previously created
from another application or database. First open the link exchange
project where you want to import new data and then select
"Project/Import Links" from the program's main menu.

From the Import/Export wizard screen select the input file format and
the data fields to be imported as new links into your existing
project.

- File Type: select the file format of your input file. For
example if you created the input file with Excel (Access or SQL)
select the .csv format. The following standard formats are
available: .csv format file, tab delimited text file, .txt text
file, .fpr or html file. The default .csv format can be created
either directly or as an export file from standard third party applications and
databases such as Excel, Access, MS-SQL, Mysql and many other
programs.
- Fields: select the data fields to be imported as new data
into your project link list workspace. You will select only those
fields that are included in your input file. If for example you are
importing from an Excel file that only has urls and emails you
will select the url field (always pre-selected by default) and the
email address field.
Click on the "OK" button when done.
The new link data will be automatically incorporated into your link
exchange workspace in just seconds ready for use in your link
exchange project.
